She frequently attended her father’s matches and even played on the Kensington Oval ground in Pickwick Club during breaks with her brother. At the age of 8, Matthews started playing cricket with the school’s boys’ team and became its captain at 11. Later, she joined the under-13 boys’ team at her school and served as its captain. Remarkably, she began playing domestic cricket for the Barbados Under 19 cricket team when she was just 9 years old, gaining considerable attention at a very young age. This early exposure contributed to her reputation as one of the best All-Rounders in women’s cricket.
